Doug Limbaugh serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Kutta Technologies, Inc. (Kutta). He is responsible for maintaining Kutta’s vision and draws on both industry standards and his own expert insights to develop a positive innovation culture and grow Kutta’s diverse product base.
Using his vast range of knowledge, management, and technical expertise, Doug leads the Kutta team and its partners in the development of cost-effective, innovative solutions to meet the end user’s needs. Kutta’s mission, vision, and values are the foundation on which those strategic growth discussions are founded.
In 2001, Doug co-founded Kutta with Matthew Savoca. In his role as co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO), Doug was the principal investigator for multiple Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards focused on advanced Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for more than 14 years. As CEO, he also testified to Congress on behalf of the SBIR program, and Kutta won two prestigious small business technical achievement awards for innovation. Kutta grew rapidly due to its innovative UAS and radio technologies and was acquired by a leading aerospace and defense company, Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), in 2015.
Doug has nearly 30 years of experience in the aviation and aerospace industry. Before founding Kutta, he worked for Boeing developing and designing real-time mathematical pilots to control aircraft. While at Boeing, he was appointed the aircraft simulator focal for all 737 aircraft and managed multiple aircraft accident investigations. This experience led to him becoming an aircraft design engineer for the next-generation 737. He later utilized real-time digital control skills on Honeywell’s Advanced Avionics Systems Integration Laboratory to design autopilot and auto-throttle control laws. Before leaving Honeywell, Doug became a systems and software engineer focused on developing FAA-certifiable (e.g., DO-178) systems and software for Honeywell’s Primus Epic avionics suite.
Doug received a master’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Keller Graduate School of Management.
