Kutta Technologies Successfully Demonstrates Autonomous Algorithms for Launched Effects Aircraft
PHOENIX (October, 2024) – Kutta Technologies, LLC (Kutta), a trusted leader in providing safety-critical uncrewed systems software and products, announces the successful completion of numerous autonomous mission flight tests with Launched Effects (LE) aircraft. The LEs executed autonomous cooperative target surveillance, terrain-following flight, and target tracking. This technology met an even more challenging Advanced Teaming requirement by successfully demonstrating coordinated effects while transferring targets between team members. Human involvement consisted of high-level supervisory commands such as “identify targets in this sector.”
Since contract initiation in 2019, Kutta developed and tested software to automatically manage LEs and their on-board payloads. The resulting software autonomously flies the LEs while automatically controlling the payloads, and performing sophisticated Detect, Identification, Location and Report (DILR) missions.
“Over the last four years, we have frequently tested these algorithms with LEs in relevant environments to fine tune them,” said Michele Atkinson, senior program manager of Kutta’s Advanced Teaming efforts. “The result is an innovative autonomy product that offers advanced autonomous teaming and coordination for reconnaissance planning and coordinated effects.”
Kutta’s four areas of focus include:
- Electro-optical (EO) /infrared (IR) reconnaissance, surveillance and battle damage assessment (BDA)
- Radio frequency (RF) DILR
- Electronic warfare effects
- Coordinated effects
These technologies continue to be improved and flight-tested in tougher environments. This innovative technology is being funded by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (DEVCOM AvMC).
